Phnom Penh, Cambodia, August 3, 2020: Cambodian sports officials are preparing to stage the 1,000 day countdown ceremony to the start of the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in three years’ time.

CAMSOC - the organising committee of the Cambodia SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games - are planning to hold the event on Friday, August 7, marking 1,000 days to the opening ceremony of the SEA Games on May 5, 2023.

Cambodia will be hosting the 11-team regional sports extravaganza for the first time in history, from May 5-17, while the 12th ASEAN Para Games will take place from June 1-10.

CAMSOC General Secretary Vath Chamroeun said the 1,000-day countdown ceremony would be held at the National Stadium in Phnom Penh and the symbols of the two games would be unveiled officially to the public.

The President of NOC Cambodia and Minister of Tourism Dr Thong Khon will give the welcome address. The motto of the two games is “Sports live in peace”.

The SEA Games is for the 11 National Olympic Committees in the Southeast Asia region. It began in 1959 and is held every two years.

The 30th SEA Games took place in the Philippines at the end of last year and the 31st SEA Games will be in Hanoi in 2021.
