1st Asian Indoor Games 12–11-2005

The 1st Asian Indoor Games began in Bangkok on November 12, 2005.  In the opening remark held at Indoor Stadium, Hua Mark in Bangkok H.E. Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, President OCA praised the generous contribution of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Sport Movement.  Thailand already hosted 4 Asian Games in the past. Immediately after the opening speech of OCA President, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn declared the 1st Asian Indoor Games open.

 

The Opening Ceremony was held under the theme “Dawn for the Asian Stars” which begins at 5:30pm and ends at 07:30pm.  37 Member NOCs are competing for 121 gold medals in nine sports - athletics, swimming (short course), dance sport, cycling, hoop takraw, muay, futsal, aerobics and extreme sports (BMX, skate board, inline skate and climbing). The Games will come to an end on November 19, 2005.

 

The Indoor Stadium is one of the four venues in Bangkok. It will host dance sport while swimming will take place at the nearby pool in Hua Mark sports complex.

—The other three Bangkok venues are Thai-Japanese Youth Centre (futsal), The Mall Bang Kapi (hoop takraw) and Nimibutr Gymnasium (cycling).

Other sports will be held in three other provinces — Chon Buri (athletics), Phuket (aerobics and muay) and Suphan Buri (extreme sports).

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has established the Asian Indoor Games to promote sports that are not included in the Summer and Asian Winter Games.
