Asian Games Fun Run in Myanmar

Over six
hundred children sprinted to the finish line at Youth Training
Centre Stadium on Saturday 11th June as part of the Official
Asian Games Fun Run which celebrated sport in Asia and
highlighted the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006.
The event
organised by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and Myanmar
Olympic Committee (MOC) featured fun runs for three different
age groups of children ranging from nine to 14 years.
Each child that
took part was rewarded with a certificate of achievement and a
limited edition 15th Asian Games sports bag from the OCA as
well as an event t-shirt from the MOC.
Bronze, Silver
and Gold medals were presented to the winners of each of the 3
age groups by H. E. Brigadier General Thura Aye Myint,
President of Myanmar Olympic Committee and Sports Minister,
Mrs Aye Aye, President of Myanmar Women’s Federation and
Colonel Thaung Htike, Secretary General, Myanmar Olympic
Committee.
The event
attracted wide-spread press attention and was featured that
day on local TV stations MR TV and MWD. Local daily
newspapers both in English and Myanmar language were also
present to capture all the action.
