visit to Iran
A delegation
from the OCA Technical Department led by OCA Deputy
Director Husain Al-Musalam was joined by Olympic
Solidarity's James Mac Cleod and the Afghan Olympic
Committee Mr. Anwar Jegdaleg to visit with the NOC of
Islamic Republic of Iran.
The purpose
of the visit was to view the progress of the Afghanistan
Olympic Solidarity athletes as they prepared for the
Athens's Olympic Games qualification processes in their
respective sports. The athletes are being hosted by the
Iranian Olympic Committee at the Islamic Republic of Iran
National Olympic and Paralympic Academy. President Seyed
Amir Hosseini Secretary General Mr. Bahram Afsher Zadeh
proved to be excellent host for the visit as the
delegation traveled to the various high level training
facilities.
The NOC of
Iran's commitment to sports and sports science has yielded
many international medals at Olympic, Asian and world
championships. The Afghan athletes and coaches are
training along-side their Iranian counterparts and
enjoying the benefits of this outstanding program.
Please note
that the boxing program has yielded a terrific success at
the first Olympic qualification tournament (22nd Asian
Boxing Championship, Philippines). At the 57k category the
Afghani athlete won a bronze medal.
