29-05-2005
Some 200 runners
participated in the Asian Games Fun Run held at Lake Gardens,
a beautiful, botanical park in the centre of Kuala Lumpur.
The run, which took place early Sunday morning, 29th May 2005,
was organized jointly by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA),
the Doha 2006 Asian Games Organizing Committee (DAGOC) and the
Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM).
Before the first
3km run got underway, the children performed warm up exercises
which proved to be a great success. There were three age
categories – group 1 for boys aged 12; group 2 for boys aged
11 and group 3 for girls aged 10 years. There was also an
‘open’ age group run for anyone who didn’t fall under these
age categories.
Present at the
run were the Deputy President Datuk Dr. M. Jegathesan, Vice
President Cik Hajah Norminshah Sabirin, Hon. Secretary Datuk
Sieh Kok Chi and Hon. Assistant Secretary Cik Latifah Yacob,
of OCM, who presented the medals and certificates to the
winners.
The media were
very supportive in the run-up to the event and on the day RTM
TV, Malaysia Today and the Star were present to capture the
action.
