Asian Games FUN RUN 2005 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

Over three
hundred children from Ashgabat, ran for 1.6 km, around the
Kopentag Sports Complex Stadium, on 16th March 2005, for the
Eleventh Official Asian Games Fun Run. The Fun Run celebrates
Sport in Asia and highlights the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006.
Organised by the
Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Turkmenistan National Olympic
Committee and Turkmenistan’s Tourism & Sports State Council,
children aged between 8 -14 were invited to participate in the
event, which spread the message of the Asian Games in the
region and also promoted development, understanding and
friendship throughout the continent.
A number of VIPs
from the OCA, Olympic Solidarity (OS), NOC’s (Turkmenistan,
Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan ) and Doha
Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC), including Mr.
Hussain Musallam- Deputy Director General OCA, were present to
watch the, the children warm up, the start/finish of all the
three age group runs and the open race.
The event
attracted wide-spread press attention with Turkmenistan’s
National TV channel 4, the national sports paper and
Turkmenistan’s national local paper, were present at the
event.
Each child was
given a momento of an Asian Games Fun Run t-shirt and a cap
and upon completion received a certificate of achievement from
the Olympic Council of Asia.
