10th
Official Asian Games FUN RUN 2005 in Ho Chi Minh ,Vietnam

Over three
hundred children from Ho Chi Minh city, ran for 2.5 km, which
started in front of the City Opera House built in 1898, taking
the children down Nguyen Hue- city centre’s main street, the
City hall, the statue of HO Chi Minh (the President of
Vietnam), on 18th February 2005, for the tenth Official Asian
Games Fun Run. The Fun Run celebrates Sport in Asia and
highlights the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006.
Organised by the
Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Vietnamese Olympic Committee
(VOC) and Ho Chi Minh’s Sports Department, children aged
between 8 -14 were invited to participate in the event, which
spread the message of the Asian Games in the region and also
promoted development, understanding and friendship throughout
the continent.
A number of VIPs
from the OCA, Olympic Solidarity (OS), NOC’s (Vietnam,
Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore,
Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Brunei), Doha Asian Games Organising
Committee (DAGOC), and Olympians, including Mr. Hussain
Musallam-Dupty Director General OCA, Mr. Celsal Daymit-Vice
President OCA and Prof Dr. Hoang Vinh Giang -Vice President &
Secretary General VOC, were present to watch the children
aerobics program, the children warm up, and the start/finish
of all the three age group runs.
The event
attracted wide-spread press attention with Vietnam TV station,
Saigon Times and other national news papers, were present at
the event.
Each child was
given a limited edition of the Asian Games Fun Run t-shirt and
a cap and upon completion received a certificate of
achievement from the Olympic Council of Asia.
