IOC’s visit to Macao

Chairman of Macao 2nd Asian Indoor Games
Organising Committee (MAIGOC) set off for
the headquarters of the International
Olympic Committee (IOC) located in Lausanne
of Switzerland (18 Oct) to meet the IOC
President Jacques Rogge, confirming his
visit and arrangements to participate in the
2nd Asian Indoor Games in Macao. During the
meeting, Manuel Silvério sent his regards to
Jacques Rogge on behalf of the Macao S.A.R.
Chief Executive, and the President was
delighted to see Macao in this trip.
As 1st Vice President of the Macau Olympic
Committee (MOC), when Manuel Silvério
learned the news that the Chinese Olympic
Committee President Liu Peng expressed
openly his support for MOC to join the IOC
during the 17th National Congress Meeting,
he said, “We are happy to know that the COC
once again declared it’s stand to support
us, and this will probably encourage the
sports circle of Macao to move on the road
of international development. In my point
of view, the techniques and experience of
sports in Macao have achieved new
development under the great support of COC
over the years, so I would like to thank COC
for their long term support and on behalf of
MAIGOC, I would also like to extend my
warmest welcome to COC President Liu Peng
for his participation in the 2nd Asian
Indoor Games Opening Ceremony as well as
other activities in Macao.”
IOC President Jacques Rogge will be arriving
Macao on 26 October. Apart from attending
the 2nd Asian Indoor Games at night, Jacques
Rogge will also meet the Chief Executive of
Macao S.A.R. In addition, the President
will experience the city and the development
of Macao sports personally. This is the
third visit of Manuel Silvério to the IOC
headquarters in Lausanne of Switzerland,
meeting IOC Director of Olympic Solidarity
and NOC Relations Department, Pere Miro and
IOC Section Manager of Olympic Solidarity,
James Macleod respectively.
Today (19 Oct), Manuel Silvério is departing
for Lisbon, Portugal, to attend the
preparation meeting for the Ministerial
Conference of the Community of
Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) as the
President of the Association of Portuguese
Speaking Countries Committee.
