An overview of the NOC delegates attending the 26th OCA General Assembly

26th OCA General Assembly 16-04-2007

 

The 26th OCA General Assembly successfully concluded in Kuwait on 16th and 17th of April 2007. The highlight of the Assembly was the unanimous election of the OCA Executive Board as well as the election of the city of Incheon, Korea as the host of the 2014 Asian Games. 

The General Assembly also had a somber moment when 5 of its Executive Board Members expressed their decision to resign.   Dr. Yoshio Kuroda, Chairman of the Medical Committee who resigned after 28 years of service to the Asian Sports Movement was unanimously nominated as the Hony. Life President of OCA and was also awarded the OCA Award of Merit.   The other 4 EB Members, namely Mr. Muhammad Latif Butt, Mr. Celso Dayrit, Mr. Rukma S. Rana and Mrs. Mikako Kotani Sugiura were nominated as Advisors and presented with the OCA Award of Merit.

The unanimous elections of the OCA EB for 26 positions were a signal of unity and solidarity between the Member NOCs of OCA and were probably the only instance in the sports organizations history worldwide.

The election of the host city for the 2014 Asian Games was a hard fought contest between the City of New Delhi and Incheon with both making excellent presentations.  However in the end the City of Incheon prevailed and earned the confidence of the house to hold the 2014 Asian Games. The congratulates the City of Incheon and hopes that the 17th Asian Games in Incheon will be the best ever.
