10th South Asia Games 18-08-2006

 

The 10th South Asia Games opened amidst great fanfare and celebrations at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo on 18th of August 2006.   The Games were declared open by the President of the Republic of Sri Lanka H.E Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa.   The games were being held in Sri Lanka for the second time after a gap of 15 years.   Raja Randhir Singh, Secretary General OCA attending the Games on behalf of the OCA, in his speech at the opening ceremony, wished the athletes and officials all success and expressed OCAs full support to the games.

 

The games are being held from 18th to 28th of August 2006 wherein approximately 2,500 athletes from the 8 South Asian NOCs will be participating in the games.  Competitions in a total of 20 sports wherein a total of 425 Gold, 425 Silver and 545 Bronze medals will be distributed.
