Run in Cambodia
20-05-2006
Over 450 people sprinted to
the finish line in front of the central Wat Phnom today as
part of the 22nd Official Asian Games Fun Run. The Fun Run
celebrated sport in Asia and highlighted the 15th Asian Games
Doha 2006.
Organized by the Olympic
Council of Asia (OCA) and the National Olympic Committee of
Cambodia, the fun run was open to all ages, encouraging lots
of people to take part.
Being the rainy season in
Cambodia there was a little rain, which did nothing to dampen
the spirit of the Fun Run. The 5 km run ran alongside the Sap
River and the Royal Palace and then circled back to the finish
line in front of Wat Phnom.
The winners from each race were
presented with their medals from Mr Bun Sok, Secretary of
State, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Mr Lak Samath,
Secretary of State, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and
Mr Meas Sarin, Secretary General, NOC of Cambodia.
Each entrant that took part was
rewarded with a certificate of achievement and a limited
edition 15th Asian Games t-shirt from the OCA.
The fun run attracted
wide-spread press attention with local newspaper, the
Cambodian Daily and local TV stations Bayon TV, TV 9, TV 3 and
Aspara TV.
