21st Official Asian Games Fun
Run in Tashkent, Uzbekistan

Over three hundred children
sprinted to the finish line inside the National Bank of
Uzbekistan Sports Complex, on Monday 8th May, as part of the
21st Official Asian Games Fun Run. The Fun Run celebrated
sport in Asia and highlighted the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006.
Organised by the Olympic
Council of Asia (OCA) and the Uzbekistan National Olympic
Committee, the fun run consisted of three different age groups
of children ranging from nine to 14 years. All the children
took part in a group warm up to the sounds of Uzbek dance
music and were entertained by local gymnasts creating a buzz
of excitement before they all headed to the start line. The
route of fun run took the runners through a beautiful leafy
green park in the NBU sports complex.
Each child that took part
was rewarded with a certificate of achievement and a limited
edition 15th Asian Games T-shirt from the OCA.
The winners from each race
were presented with bronze, silver or gold medals by various
representatives from Macau NOC, DAGOC, Uzbeskistan NOC, China
NOC, UAE NOC as well as Mr. Manuel Silverio Vice President
OCA, Raja Randhir Singh, Secretary General OCA, Mr. Husain Ali
Al-Musalam, Director General, OCA and James Macleod from
Olympic Solidarity.
The event attracted
wide-spread press attention and was featured that evening on
local TV stations Uzbekistan Youth Channel and Uzbekistan
Sports Channel. Local daily newspapers both in Uzbekistan and
Russian language were also present to capture all the action
