2010 Asian Games

The Five Member Evaluation Committee, Chaired by Mr. Celso
Dayrit, Vice President OCA, completed its Evaluation Visit to
the two bidding cities of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and
Guangzhou (China) to host the 16th Asian Games in the year
2010. The other members of the Committee were Mr. Bahram
Afsharzadeh, Secy. Genl. NOC of Iran & Executive Board Membr
OCA, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Maskeri, Secy. Genl. NOC of Oman, Mr.
Abdul Ghani Tabbalat, Secy. Genl. NOC of Jordan and Mr.
Vinod Kumar Tiwari, Manager of the International & NOC Affairs
of OCA. The Committee visited the City of Kuala Lumpur from
12th to 14th of April and the City of Guangzhou from 14th to
16th of April 2004.
However, after the culmination of the visit to Kuala Lumpur,
the NOC of Malaysia was unable to obtain the necessary
Guarantees from the Government of Malaysia and the Kuala
Lumpur City Council, which as per the OCA Constitution are a
pre-requisite for hosting the Asian Games. The President of
NOC of Malaysia in a letter dated 15th April 2004 addressed to
President OCA officially withdrew the bid of Kuala Lumpur to
host the 2010 Asian Games. Therefore leaving the City of
Guangzhou as the only Candidate City to host the Games.
The OCA Executive Board and the General Assembly in its
forthcoming meetings to be held in Doha on 30th of June and
1st of July 2004 respectively will consider the candidature of
Guangzhou and officially approve the City of Guangzhou as the
host of the 16th Asian Games to be held in the year 2010.
