The Ist ever
Afro-Asian Games were held in Hyderabad, the Capital of
Andhra Pradesh State in India from 24th of October to 1st
November, 2003. President OCA presided over the Opening
Ceremony of the Ist Afro-Asian Games. The games were
opened by the Deputy Prime Minister of India Mr. L.K.
Advani.
A total of
2,000 athletes and officials from almost 75 countries of
Asia and Africa participated in the Ist Afro-Asian Games
held from 24th October to 1st November, 2003.
Two World
Records were broken - One in Shooting by Ms. Olga Dovgun
from Kazakhstan in 50 M Rifle Prone (Women) who shot
600/600. The second was in Weightlifting by Ms. Sun Dan
from China who lifted 277.5 Kgs in over 75 Kgs. in women
categories.
China with
25 Gold, 11 Silver and 5 Bronze was placed first in Medals
Tally and India with 19 Gold, 32 Silver and 29 bronze was
placed second.
