With a title of “Gold”, no wonder the new weekly newsletter of the United Arab Emirates NOC is winning high praise. On a recent visit to the UAE for the 21st Dubai International Basketball Championship, the President of the Egyptian NOC, His Excellency Major General Mahmoud Ahmed Ali, was presented with a set of the “Gold” publication by HE Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Hussain, Secretary General of the UAE NOC.

“Gold” is produced in Arabic and English and circulated to all sports institutions in the UAE, to the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Council of Asia, the Association of National Olympic Committees and all other NOCs.

“The function of the newsletter is to showcase all the events undertaken by the National Olympic Committee, to promote the Olympic Movement and its cherished ideals, to adhere to these rules and principles, and to diffuse the spirit of enthusiasm among athletes in various ways as deemed appropriate,” explains HE Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Hussain.

Maj. Gen. Ali, who is also Chairman of the Egyptian Basketball Federation, commended the initiative of the UAE NOC in setting up “Gold”, and praised the efforts that go into producing the weekly, eight-page magazine.

“It is very important for disseminating the basic Olympic ideals and Olympsim at the national level,” said an impressed Maj. Gen. Ali.

The latest edition of “Gold” is Volume 10, dated January 25, 2010.
