OCA Media Committee meets in Macau

07 Feb 2012
Macau, China: The Olympic Council of Asia’s Media Committee met for the first time under its new chairman, Charles Lo, at the Galaxy Hotel Macau on Tuesday. Mr Lo, who is President of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China, welcomed the members and VIP guests to the meeting. Members came from Iran, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Malaysia, Mongolia and Chinese Taipei.

The two VIP guests were Mr Timothy Fok, OCA Vice President for East Asia and President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, and Mr Zhang Jilong, Chairman of the OCA Sports Committee and acting President of the Asian Football Confederation.

The Director General and Technical Director of the OCA, Mr Husain Al-Musallam, from OCA headquarters in Kuwait, also attended the meeting. Mr Fok, a member of the International Olympic Committee, said the first meeting of the new Media Committee since the OCA General Assembly in Tokyo last July was very important as it promoted communication among the 45 National Olympic Committees of Asia.

Macau will also host the OCA General Assembly on November 3, 2012, and Mr Fok said this high-profile event, with over 400 participants from the global Olympic movement, further underlined Macau’s growth and reputation as a sports city.

“Macau has already held the East Asian Games, the Portuguese-speaking Games and the Asian Indoor Games, so the OCA General Assembly will be another big sports occasion for Macau,” said Mr Fok. “Macau is well-known as a great entertainment city, from humble beginnings to one of the most vibrant cities anywhere, and is now growing as a sports city, too.”

Mr Lo reviewed the OCA Media Committee activities from 2011 and also looked ahead to a busy 2012, which includes the OCA’s 3rd Asian Beach Games in Haiyang, Shandong province, in June, the London Olympic Games and the OCA General Assembly.

“It is a pleasure and an honour to welcome you all to Macau for the first OCA Media Committee meeting of the new cycle, and I look forward to your support, ideas and input so we can assist the OCA in providing the best media and broadcast services possible,” said Mr Lo.
