Chinese Taipei NOC salutes female boxer, 16

01 Feb 2014
Taipei: The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee is extremely proud of the achievements of one of its young athletes - Chen Nien Chin, who received the Best Asian Junior Women's Boxer of 2013 Trophy at the gala dinner of the ASBC Youth Boxing Championships on January 30, 2014 in Bangkok. Approved unanimously by the Executive Members of ASBC, Ms Chen won this nomination for her excellent performance in the AIBA Women’s Junior World Boxing Championships 2013.

She won a gold medal in women’s 75kg category, the first-ever by Chinese Taipei in the AIBA competition events.

The 16-year-old boxer has had only four years of training. The marvel is that she suffers from severe anemia and still would not give up her love for the sport. Away from her home on a remote island off Taiwan, Chen studied alone and trained hard in Taipei against male boxers. She won 3 consecutive gold medals in the National High School Games and won a silver medal in the 2013 Taipei City Cup Boxing Tournament, losing out to the 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Marina Volnova.
