Macau, China: The President of the Asian Bowling Federation, Sheikh Talal Mohammad Al-Sabah, opened the 18th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Macau Bowling Centre in COTAI on Monday, March 23. The event has attracted 15 teams - from Australia, Bahrain, China, Hong Kong-China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Macau-China, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Chinese Taipei - and competition runs from March 24-31.

Sheikh Talal said it was important for all sports to focus on kids and youth in order to guarantee a bright future for their sport and athletes. “It is always exciting to watch young people playing in sports competitions,” he said. “Sports activities help to develop the body and mind of the youth, and sports competitions train the youth to be a better person in society.

“I am confident that this championship will be another arena and showcase in which we can watch our young bowlers matching their skill against each other.” Sheikh Talal said he was very familiar with the Macau bowling centre, which is located next to the East Asian Games Dome, as he had been visiting the centre for around nine years, since the OCA’s 2nd Asian Indoor Games in 2007.

“It has been some time since an official Asian Championship has been held in Macau, China and we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Macau China Bowling Association General and the organising committee for their relentless effort and dedication to make this event a success,” he added.

He also thanked the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China, whose President, Mr Charles Lo, was among the VIP guests at the opening ceremony on Monday. Other guests included ABF Hon. Life President Vivien Lau of Hong Kong.
