Doha Qatar: The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Swimming Youth Camp started on Wednesday at Hamad Aquatic Centre in Doha, in cooperation with Olympic Solidarity, world governing body FINA, Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), the Qatar Olympic Academy (QOA) and the Qatar Swimming Association (QSA).

OCA Asian Games Department Director Haider Farman, QOC Vice President Sheikh Saud Bin Ali Al Thani, QSA President Khaleel Al Jabir, FINA instructor Jim Fowlie and more than 100 coaches and athletes from 31 Asian NOCs attended the opening ceremony at the Qatar Olympic Academy in the morning.

QOC Vice President Sheikh Saud welcomed all participants to Qatar, and QSA President Khaleel Al Jabir thanked the OCA, FINA and all the athletes and coaches for supporting the camp.

“This youth camp gives you all the chance to train in the Hamad Aquatic Centre, which will host the FINA Swimming World Cup and FINA World Swimming Championships in a few months’ time,” said Khaleel Al Jabir.

“The programme has been designed to inspire young participants, to bring them closer and united in a common goal, to share the experience and enhance friendships. I’m confident that everyone will gain a unique and memorable experience by the conclusion of this camp.”

Haider Farman said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Olympic Solidarity, FINA, QOC, QSA and QOA for this swimming camp. I hope in the next 10 days that all of you can take the maximum benefit from our international expert and take all the information you may need to develop swimming in your country.”

The OCA Swimming Youth Camp will be held from June 18-28 with a variety of training programmes and coaching clinics designed to improve not only the athletes’ performance but also coaching technique.
