2017 Sapporo Asian Winter Games logo and website launched
20 Nov 2013
Sapporo, Japan: The 2017 Sapporo Asian Winter Games Organising Committee (SAWGOC) has unveiled the official emblem/logo for the 8th Asian Winter Games which will be held in 2017 in the Japanese cities of Sapporo and Obihiro.
SAWGOC called for logo design submissions from the general public this summer, and the design was chosen out of over 170 contributions from across Japan.
The overall form of the logo represents Hokkaido (the most northerly island of Japan where Sapporo and Obihiro are located) and the North Star as a whole.
The five blue arcs represent the five sports of the Games, as well as the five Asian regions who will assemble and work together in the host cities, under the OCA - symbolized by the sun in the middle - to ensure the success of the Games. The arcs also represent the organisers’ hope that the influence of this winter sporting event will develop and spread with Hokkaido as a base.
On November 20, the same day SAWGOC announced their emblem/logo, they also has launched an English-language version of their website.
With uplifting images of 11 sports/disciplines of the Games on the opening page, the site provides general information on the 2017 Sapporo Asian Winter Games, including messages from their Honorary President, Tsunekazu Takeda (President of the Japanese Olympic Committee and IOC member), and their President, Fumio Ueda, who is the Mayor of Sapporo.
