Syria to host international kickboxing event

Damascus, Syria, March 23, 2017: The President of the Asian Kickboxing Federation and Vice President of the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO), Nasser Nassiri, has praised Syria’s strength in several sports, notably in kickboxing. In a press conference held at the General Sports Federation headquarters in Damascus earlier this month, Nassiri voiced support to host the 2017 International Kickboxing Championship in Damascus on July 7, reports the Syrian Arab News Agency.

He added that the Asian Kickboxing Federation would provide technical, practical and theoretical training to players, judges and coaches in order to enhance their expertise and upgrade their skills. The Chairman of the General Sports Federation, Muwafaq Jum’a, said that the next championship would be held within the “Syria Wins” sports festival to stress the determination of Syrian sport to progress to a world level.

The Chairman of the Kickboxing Federation in Syria, Manar al-Barzeh, said the championship would be held under the auspices of WAKO and the Asian Kickboxing Federation. He added that it would be the first international kickboxing event in Syria for six years, and that Iran, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon and Iraq had already announced their entry for the July 7 championship.
