Manama, Bahrain: The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) has announced a 12-member delegation that will spearhead the Kingdom of Bahrain at the 2012 London Olympic Games from July 27 to August 12. Leading the Bahraini athletes’ hopes at the Games will be 27-year-old shooter Azza Al Qasmi, who is due to carry the Bahrain flag in the parade during the opening ceremony at the Olympic Stadium in London.

Other athletes include young swimmers Sara Al Flaij (16 years) and Khaled Ismaeel (15 years). The remaining nine are all competing in athletics, with former world champion Maryam Jamal being Bahrain’s main hopeful. The Bahrain delegation to the Olympics will be headed by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and president of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
