Chinese Taipei NOC celebrates World Games honour for women’s tug-of-war team

Taipei: The Chinese Taipei women’s tug-of-war team, which won the gold medals at the World Games for a third straight time at Cali in 2013, has been voted runner-up in the Team of the Year award and Best Team in Asia by the International World Games Association. They had also won the World Games tug-of-war competition at Duisburg in 2005 and Kaohsiung in 2009.

The IWGA launched the polls of Athlete of the Year and Team of the Year at the beginning of 2014. Fans voted online to choose the best athlete and team according to their achievements in the 2013 Cali World Games.

The USA flying disc team achieved 16,744 votes to win the title of IWGA Team of the Year. The Chinese Taipei women’s tug-of-war team came in second with 13,945 votes, and won the highest vote among Asian NOCs. It’s also a very important milestone for the promotion of women and sport in Chinese Taipei.

Elsewhere in the voting, Mongolian sumo wrestler Naranbat Gankhuyyag was ranked second in Athlete of the Year with 12,744 votes and the aerobics group of China was 10th in Team of the Year with 103 votes.
