Moscow, Russia: Olympic delegations headed by IOC President Jacques Rogge and ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah were received by the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, at Kremlin Palace on Monday evening. President Medvedev first congratulated Sheikh Ahmad on becoming the new President of ANOC. “I wish you the very best of success in promoting the ideal of Olympism and strengthening international sports cooperation,” he said.

“Russia was one of the founders of the Olympic Movement and last year we celebrated the 100-year anniversary of the Russian Olympic Committee. We are proud of our Olympic glories and we think the mission of any country is to encourage youth to exercise sport. Today Russia has done a lot to promote fitness through sport and to develop sports infrastructure.”

President Rogge expressed his gratitude to the Russian Olympic Committee and his confidence that the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games would be an outstanding success due to the close cooperation between the IOC and Organising Committee. Sheikh Ahmad also expressed his sincere appreciation to the Russian Government for the great success of the ANOC General Assembly and World Olympic Sport Convention.

“It is such a pleasure and a great honour to be here, in the Kremlin Palace, tonight with all of you. I would like to express my special appreciation to the Russian Government and Olympic Committee of Russia. Thank you for the wonderful arrangements and hospitality given to us and for making our event a great success. “Russia is one of the most successful NOCs in our Olympic family. I wish for Russia to enjoy continued success in all the mega sports events to be held in future.”
