23rd Official Asian Games Fun Run in Vientiane, Laos

23 May 2006
Over three hundred children sprinted to the finish line in front of the Pha That Luang, a magnificant Pagoda, on the east side of Vientiane, on Monday 23rd May, as part of the 23rd Official Asian Games Fun Run.  The Fun Run celebrated sport in Asia and highlighted the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006.

Organised by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Laos National Olympic Committee, the fun run consisted of three different age groups of children ranging from nine to 14 years.  All the children took part in a group aerobic warm up before the start of the fun run.  The route took the runners around the great pagoda park and then back to the finish line in front of the golden Pagoda.

Each child that took part was rewarded with a certificate of achievement and a limited edition 15th Asian Games T-shirt from the OCA.

The winners from each race were presented with bronze, silver or gold medals by Husain Ali Al-Musalam, Director General, OCA, President of NOC Laos and Louis Louis from DAGOC.

The event attracted wide-spread press attention and was featured that evening on National Laos TV as well as in the Vientiane Times, The Pasason and The Sports Daily Newspaper the following day.
