Women’s football grows in Bahrain

Manama, Bahrain: Women’s football is on the rise in Bahrain thanks to the determined efforts of the Bahrain Football Association, says Bahrain Olympic Committee member and BOC Women’s Committee Chair, Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa.

On a recent visit to a training session of the Bahrain team preparing for the 5th AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship in China, Shaikha Hayat said Bahrain’s qualification was already a significant achievement.

Shaikha Hayat noted the high spirits of the players and said she was confident Bahrain would put up a good show. She described the event as a great challenge for the Bahraini girls and a new experience for many of them representing Bahrain for the first time.

She praised the tremendous efforts of the Bahrain Football Association, led by President Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, in supporting all women’s football teams in recent years on various levels.

Bahrain will begin their Group A campaign on September 26 against China at Jiangning Sports Centre in Nanjing and face Australia two days later..

The tournament concludes on October 6 with the top three sides representing Asia at the 2014 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica next April.
