12 Jun 2014
Kuwait City, Kuwait: The Olympic Council of Asia, Qatar Olympic Committee and Qatar Swimming Association will host a swimming youth camp at the Hamad Aquatic Centre in Qatar – iconic venue for the highly successful swimming competition at the 2006 Doha Asian Games. The OCA Swimming Youth Camp will be held from June 18-28 in cooperation with Olympic Solidarity, world governing body FINA, Qatar NOC, the Qatar Olympic Academy and the Qatar Swimming Association.

This year’s youth camp has attracted more than 100 athletes and coaches from 31 Asian NOCs to the two-week programme.  The OCA will cover all travel costs, while the QOC will pay for full board and accommodation and for the training facilities.

Expert Jim Fowlie from Australia will conduct the training course.  He has been head coach of Swimming New South Wales and the New South Wales Institute of Sport since 2006.

Since 2007 he has been in the critical role of assisting coaches to stay at the cutting edge of swimming and ensuring swimmers achieve their potential. The combination of his extensive international coaching experience and applied sports science work is unique in the world of swimming.

The Hamad Aquatic Centre occupies five floors and is themed around ultra-modern facilities for water sports. This international aquatic complex provides extensive facilities for swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo as well as other aquatic activities.

The Asian Games competition venue is a purpose-built 50m pool suitable for several aquatic sports and leisure activities. The swimming pool has hosted numerous international, regional and local events such as the 2006 Asian Games and several GCC Swimming Championships.
