Mongolia NOC mourns loss of Vice President Tsend Damdin

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, February 23, 2018: The Mongolian National Olympic Committee is sad to report the passing of Mr Tsend Damdin, Moscow 1980 Olympic Games silver medal-winner in judo and a former Secretary General of Mongolia NOC from 1999 to 2004. Mr Damdin was a Vice President of the NOC since 2005 and President of the Mongolian Olympians' Association.

He passed away on February 22 at the age of 61. He was also an influential leader in the fields of sport and Olympism. He was world champion in sambo at the Barcelona 1979 World Championships, head coach of the national judo team, Secretray-General of the Mongolian Judo Federation, International Referee of the IJF and Professor at the Mongolian National University of Physical Education and Sports, as well as the holder of the prestigious "Falcon" title in national wrestling.

Mr Damdin was the father of three children, including his son and judoka Damdin Suldbayar, an Olympian at Athens 2004 and who registered two victories.
