Palestine sets new benchmark for DSF

14 Jun 2011
Hebron, Palestine: The Palestine Daimler Street Football (DSF) project, which was held on Monday, June 13, set a higher standard for others to follow in the future. Palestine DSF attracted more than 12 teams and 150 boys to participate in the competition. For the first time, the tournament organising committee formed a special press committee to help promote DSF in the West Bank in order to receive more media attention and government support.

The six-member press committee was headed by Abedul Fattah Arar (pictured), a famous journalist in the West Bank as well as a football coach. The other members included Nasser Shyoukhi (AP photographer), Amjad Shawar from Hebron Radio, Fayyez Nassar from Al Ayyam Newspaper and Samer Sha’rawi from Al Horia Radio Station.

As a result of the successful staging of the event, the Palestinian Football Federation announced that it would promote DSF in more Palestinian regions in the future.

“I believe Palestine will do better in future to promote sport while carrying out DSF. I also have confidence that all media will give good coverage to the tournament,” said Abedul Fattah Arar.

“A successful DSF in future will help Palestine discover more young football talent and offer more and more boys and girls a better opportunity for participating in sport.

“A grassroots sports programme like DSF is exactly what Palestinian people need for building up a better future."
