UAE, Bahrain dominate first day of track and field

Sharjah, UAE: Bahrain's Al Shabab Club athletics team won six medals - two gold, two silver and two bronze - on the second day of the 2nd Arab Women's Sports Tournament in Sharjah, UAE.On the first day of athletics at Al Thiqah Club, Hajer Al Saidi gave Bahrain its first gold medal of the tournament by winning the 100 metres in 12.31 seconds. Teammate Fatin Abdulnabi took the silver (12.92) and Palestine's Doha Idris (13.16) won bronze.

Maryam Al Ansari won the long jump with her first attempt, finishing ahead of another Bahraini, Sabrine Yousef, who took the silver, and third-placer Nadia Skaria of Qatar.

Other results were:

Javelin: 1, Hanan Ebrashim (Sharjah Ladies Club) 28.27 metres; 2, Marwa Al Jasmi (Sharjah Ladies Club) 25.68 metres; 3, Fatin Abdulnabi (Al Shabab, Bahrain) 14.22 metres.

Shot put: 1, Maryam Al Saidi (Sharjah Ladies Club) 11.68 metres; 2, Lina Qaddis (Jordan) 10.82 metres; 3, Basma Mohammed (Al Shabab, Bahrain) 10.56 metres.

Shooting - air pistol: 1, Wafa Al Ali (UAE) 197.3 points; 2, Wada'a Al Blooshi (Oman) 195.3; 3, Nasra Mahmood  (Qatar) 174.7.
