Sheikh Ahmad prepares for ‘crucial’ ANOC General Assembly in Prague

Prague, Czech Republic, October 31, 2017: The global Olympic movement is converging on the beautiful Czech capital of Prague for the 22nd General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).Over 1,300 delegates from the 206 NOCs of the five Olympic rings will be attending the two-day General Assembly on November 2-3 and plotting the course for the future in the rapidly-changing Olympic world.

The meetings began on Tuesday at the Hilton Prague Hotel with the ANOC working groups and commissions and will continue on Wednesday with the ANOC Executive Council at 2pm, followed by the official reception hosted by the Czech Olympic Committee at 8pm.

The 22nd ANOC General Assembly starts on Thursday morning and will also include the ANOC Awards 2017 at Forum Karlin on Thursday evening. The General Assembly ends on Friday afternoon.

The ANOC President, HE Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, is looking forward to a “full and exacting” agenda with many important items.

“The ANOC General Assembly is crucial in harnessing the collective power of the NOCs and ensuring that we are speaking with one voice, so our agenda needs to cover all priority topics for the NOCs,” said Sheikh Ahmad.The assembly will provide updates on important topics facing the Olympic movement, including progress reports on the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Korea, and Tokyo 2020, and also the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games planned for San Diego in the United States in 2019.

IOC President Thomas Bach will deliver his traditional “state of the movement” address to the ANOC General Assembly on Thursday.
