Kabul, Afghanistan: With rugby sevens joining the Olympic Games sports programme at Rio de Janeiro in 2016, rugby federations and National Olympic Committees around the world are taking big steps to improve the quality of the play.
Afghanistan's Rugby Federation, for example, is holding a special rugby camp at the National Ghazi Sports Stadium in Kabul from May 20-30, reports Afghanistan Online (www.afghan-web.com).
According to the official announcement on May 17, the camp will be run by Zafar Khan, an Afghan who has played for the Indian national rugby team.
“The aim of this month's camp is to introduce rugby to Afghans and to start selecting a national team, as well as a junior team,” said Abdul Khalil Bik, the director of the Afghanistan Rugby Federation.
The president of the federation, Mohammad Mansoor Majid, added: “Afghans are ideally suited for the game. They are physically fit, dynamic and energetic.”
