Ashgabat 2017 prepares for CDM Seminar

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, March 15, 2017: Organisers of the Olympic Council of Asia’s 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG 5) in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, this September are making final preparations for the re-arranged Chefs de Mission Seminar. The seminar, for team leaders from the 62 National Olympic Committees taking part from Asia and Oceania, was due to be held from March 16-18 but has been put back to next month due to an event overlap.

The new dates are April 4-8, including arrival and departure days. The activities will include the Opening Ceremony of the Awaza Sports Complex and the “Asiada 2017 – Innovative Technologies in Sport” International Conference at the Awaza Tourist Zone at the Caspian Sea on April 7. The President of Turkmenistan, HE Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the OCA President, HE Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, are both expected to attend the conference.

The schedule is:

Tuesday, April 4: Arrivals, one-to-one meetings and welcome reception.
Wednesday, April 5: Plenary sessions, venue tour and official dinner.
Thursday, April 6: Plenary sessions, information desks and one-to-one meetings.
Friday, April 7: Opening Ceremony of Awaza Sport Complex and “Asiada 2017 - Innovative Technologies in Sport” International Conference at Awaza Tourist Zone, Caspian Sea.
Saturday, April 8: One-to-one meetings, departures.

The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will run from September 17-27, 2017, in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. There will be 21 sports and 5,000 athletes from 62 National Olympic Committees – 45 from OCA and 17 from Oceania.

It will be an historic moment for the country, as Ashgabat 2017 will be the first major multi-sport event to be hosted in Turkmenistan. The vision after the games will be for the city of Ashgabat and the country as a whole to host future major sporting events at an international level.

AIMAG 5 will be staged at the Ashgabat Olympic Complex – the largest sports complex in Central Asia. Construction began in November 2010 and the complex boasts over 30 different facilities including an indoor athletics arena, velodrome, indoor aquatics centre and Athletes’ Village. The opening and closing ceremony for Ashgabat 2017 will be held at the 45,000-capacity main stadium.
