Kuwait: The Olympic Council of Asia hosted the Olympic and Sports Education Seminar for more than 100 students from the American University of Kuwait (AUK), in collaboration with the AUK International Relations Club, at the new OCA HQ on Thursday.
The OCA delivered three presentations to give the university students a comprehensive understanding of the Olympic Movement and sport. The three presentations were:
*Ancient and Modern Olympics and Olympic Values, by OCA Director General and Technical Director Husain Al Musallam
*Anti-Doping Awareness, by Dr Saleh Konbaz
*Court of Arbitration for Sport, by Dr Al Hayan.
The speakers included German football legend Lothar Matthaus and IOC members Rania Elwani and Sergey Bubka, who spoke about their own personal experiences of the positive impact of sport on people’s lives.
ANOC and OCA President HE Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah also shared his experience of three decades in sport, international relations and politics with the students, who were deeply impressed and inspired by his speech.
Entisar Al-Sabah, a major in International Relations of AUK, said she had learned many things from the seminar and had been inspired by Sheikh’s speech. “To be honest, it has been a very meaningful day,” she said.
“I have learned a lot about the relationship between politics and sport, the Olympic Movement and different sports events which I really didn’t know before. I liked his detailed explanation of politics in football and sport.”
Her classmate, Haya Al-Sabah, expressed a similar opinion and was excited by the seminar. “Although Sheikh Ahmad had very limited time, he managed each session of his speech well. He presented very clearly to us the relationship between different elements within sport, and how international relations work within the global sports community.”
