Young Wrestlers performing in 17th Asian Games Fun Run in Mongolia.
Young wrestlers display Mongolian fire in winter cold

12 Mar 2012
Kuwait: A major event in Mongolia would not be quite the same without the presence of the pride of the Mongolian nation: the fearless wrestler. The recent OCA Fun Run + Learn event in the capital city Ulaanbaatar was no exception. Before the races began, up-and-coming wrestlers took part in the opening ceremony at the National Entertainment Park, adding some local culture and tradition to the proceedings.

“Every event in the country includes wrestling,” explains Jugder Otgontsagaan, Secretary-General of the Mongolian National Olympic Committee. “These schoolboy wrestlers came from the countryside to study in Ulaanbaatar and are the holders of provincial and county titles ‘elephant’ and ‘lion.’

“We have some wrestling competitions on snow in winter time and the bravest take part, so I decided to invite some wrestlers to join our fun run in minus 15-20 C temperatures. It certainly added some fun to the fun run.” OCA Fun Run festivities in 2011 included some funky dancing robots from Korea in the UAE and a baby elephant at Phuket, Thailand, and no doubt there will be many more surprises in store in 2012.
