Oman NOC’s new board holds first meeting

Muscat, Oman: The first meeting of the Board of Directors of the Oman Olympic Committee, elected for the upcoming term of office 2013-2017, was held at the OOC premises in North Ghubra today under the chairmanship of Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair. The meeting was attended by all the board members elected at the OOC General Assembly on April 25.

In his opening address, Sheikh Khalid welcomed the newly elected members, congratulated them for the high confidence pinned on them by the General Assembly and wished them success in their assignments. He called for concerted efforts by all board members to promote the activities of the OOC and develop the Olympic and sports movement in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Board of Directors extended the highest expressions of loyalty and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for the significant and generous support His Majesty has always accorded to the youth of Oman and his profound care for the sports movement in the country. The board pledged to exert further efforts in the sports drive and further strengthen cooperation with all sports-related parties.

The board then reviewed the agenda items and heard an elaborate presentation on the tasks and functions of the board’s committees and exchanged ideas, views and suggestions about how the board can contribute to the drawn-up objectives in the forthcoming period. The meeting also discussed ways of consolidating working relationships and mutual bonds with the sports associations, sports committees, regional and continental Olympic Committees and the International Olympic Committee.

The board approved the new structure of the OOC Executive Office for the upcoming period until 2017 under the chairmanship of Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair, OOC Chairman; and membership of Mr. Taha Al Kishri, OOC Secretary General; Mr. Al Mutasim bin Humood Al Zidjali, OOC Treasurer; and Sheikh Mahfoudh Al Jumaa, board member. The other working committees will be re-structured at a later stage as warranted and in accordance with the applicable rules.

The board agreed that Sheikh Saif bin Hilal Al Hosni, OOC Vice Chairman, would preside over the Sultanate’s delegation for the 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Incheon, Korea, from June 29 to July 6. Sheikh Khalid Al Zubair, Board Chairman, will preside over the Sultanate’s delegation at the 2nd Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China, from August 16-24.

The meeting approved the formation of the official OOC delegation taking part in the 27th meeting of the Chairmen of GCC National Olympic Committees; the 77th meeting of the Executive Office of the Council of Chairmen of GCC National Olympic Committees and the associated meetings scheduled to be held in the Kingdom of Bahrain from May 15-20.

The OOC delegation will be led by Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair, OOC Board Chairman, and will comprise Mr. Taha Al Kishri, OOC Secretary General; Mrs. Saadah Al Ismaili, OOC Board Member; and Mr. Salim bin Abdallah Al Masroori, Member of Coordination and Follow-up Committee.

Furthermore, reviewing the invitation extended to the OOC to take part in the ANOC Extraordinary General Assembly to be held in Lausanne, Switzerland, from June 14-16, 2013, the board approved the participation of the OOC Chairman and Secretary General.
