OCA Continental meeting on Women and Sport

Los Angeles, USA: The IOC, in collaboration with the OCA through the OCA Women and Sport Committee, organised an Asia Continental Meeting for women and sport in Los Angeles, California, in conjunction with the 5th IOC Conference on Women and Sport 2012. Under the leadership of OCA Women and Sport Chair Mrs Natalya Sipovich, 32 delegates from 21 Asian NOCs attended, including Bangladesh, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, Cambodia, Qatar, Nepal, Indonesia, Syria, Thailand, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Oman, Mongolia, China and Laos.

The Asia Continental Meeting provided a golden opportunity for the Asian delegates, who were welcomed by IOC President Jacques Rogge. The IOC President delivered a short speech regarding the progress made in the participation of women in sports activities. The delegates asked questions to the IOC President and received his answers and comments.

The participants also discussed matters relating to the advancement of women in and through sport and made proposals on the advancement of women and sport to the IOC for consideration.

During this meeting, HRH Prince Faisal Al Hussein, IOC Member, President and Founder of Generations for Peace, Mr. Wu Ching-Kuo, President of world boxing body AIBA, Mr. Masato Mizuno of the Japanese Olympic Committee, Mrs Rita Subowo, IOC Member, President of Indonesia NOC, Mrs Nour (Syria) and Ms Low Beng Choo (Malaysia) - IOC Women and Sport Commission members - shared their points of view and experience.

Ms. Anita Defrantz, Chair of IOC Women and Sport Commission, welcomed the Asian delegates and wished them success in the work of the IOC Conference.
