The West Asia Anti-Doping Organization, Amman, Jordan

Amman,Jordan: The West Asia Regional Anti-Doping Organization (WAADO) Board meeting was officially convened in Amman on 12-13 April 2013.  The meetingwas officially opened under the patronage of her Excellency Ms. Lana AL Ghabeer  , Secretary General of Jordan Olympic Committee on 12-13 April 2013 at the Landmark Hotel.

Professor Kamal AlHaddidi,Chairman of WAADO , welcomed the Secretary General of Jordan Olympic Committee, representatives from World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA)  and board members from Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine.Syria was not able to attend but formallyauthorized in the Board Member from Jordan to representtheir interests during the meeting.

WADA was represented by Mr. Tom May , Senior Manager in the Program Development department , Mr. Kazuhiro Hayashi,Director of Asia/ Oceania Regional Office . Ms. Nadiah AL Shamali ,Manager of the Doping Control Department in the Olympic Council of Asia  participated as an observer.

WADA introduced  its recent  activities including  the review of the World Anti-Doping Code , the proposed RADO Testing Grant for 2013, the announcement of  the World Conference on Doping in Sport in November 2013 in Johannesburg  and a review of the results management process.

In addition, the UNESCO Convention ratification was brought into the discussion, where WADA has strongly encouraged those member countries who havenot ratifiedthe UNESCO Convention to undertake the necessary steps  to ratify it ,so that they will be eligible to apply for UNESCO Voluntary Fund. In parallel with that, the member countries have examined and discussed the strategic plan for 2013-2016 and the action plan 2013 where the major priorities have been determined and planned.

All attendees thanked the Jordan Olympic Committee and Jordan Anti-Doping Organization for hosting and organizing this event and they have expressed their appreciation and thanks to WADA and the OCA for their continual and  firm support in establishing the Anti-Doping Programmers in the region.

There are 15 established RADOs worldwide, among those five RADOs in Asia. The five Asian RADO offices are located in Maldives (South Asia), Singapore (South East Asia), Jordan (West Asia), Kuwait (GCCY) and Kazakhstan (Central Asia). The Meeting was officially concluded on 2013 April 2013.
