Phuket Beach Games to offer 168 gold medals in 26 sports

28 Apr 2014
Phuket, Thailand: Ju-jitsu, squash and sambo wrestling have been added to the sports programme for the 4th Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand, from November 14-23, 2014. There will now be a total of 26 sports and 168 gold medals on offer.

The three new sports will be held from around November 10, and will be completed before the official opening ceremony on November 14 so they will not affect the timetable around the six venue clusters. Squash will be played in Perspex courts transported to Phuket and constructed at one of the venues.

The Sports Director of the Ju-jitsu Asian Union, Joachim Thumfart, is expecting 120 athletes from at least 15 NOCs to compete in 12 events. NOCs can enter all 12 categories and there will be a maximum of eight athletes or teams in each category. Wild cards will also be offered to NOCs if their athletes have not qualified through rankings.

The ju-jitsu competition will be held at Patong Beach on November 12-13.
