Judoka Sumiya wins Mongolia NOC award

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, December 27, 2017: Mongolia NOC held the 15th anniversary edition of the of the Burte Chono Sports Gala in Ulaanbaatar on December 20. Judoka Ms. D. Sumiya was named Athlete of the Year 2017 in a secret ballot of sports journalists and was awarded the Burte Chono 2017 trophy as well as the Athlete of the Year trophy.

She was presented with her awards by the Mongolia NOC President, Dr. D. Zagdsuren, and the Beijing 2008 Olympic champion and Chinggis Khan Award winner for Athlete of the Year 2017 - judoka Mr. N. Tuvshinbayar.  Sumiya won gold medals at the IJF World Senior Championships, Abu Dhabi Grand Slam and St Petersburg Masters and led the IJF world ranking in the women’s -57kg weight category.

Boxer Mr. D. Otgondalai, bronze medallist of the AIBA World Championships and bronze medallist at the Asian Championships, was named Male Athlete of the Year. Sports Minister Mrs.Ts.Tsogzolmaa presented the Burte Chono 2017 trophy.

The Executive Board members of Mongolia NOC, Olympic medallists, NOC members, delegates from the Olympic Studies Centres, National Federations and best athletes were the hounoured guests of the Burte Chono Sports Gala. The ceremony was broadcast live  all around Mongolia by Mongolian National Broadcasting.
