Representatives of the Players Committee at their meeting
Players' Committee calls for athlete scholarships

14 Apr 2014
Manama, Bahrain: The Bahrain Olympic Committee’s (BOC) Players Committee has recommended the allocation of scholarships for outstanding players, said committee chairwoman Ruqaya Al Ghasra. The recommendation was revealed during the second meeting of the committee, chaired by Ruqaya, and attended by all committee members.

The committee comprises a group of Bahraini athletes of different sports, namely Hassan Dahi and Mahmood Hassan (volleyball), Omar Al Malki (swimming), Akeel Abdulamir (cycling).

At this meeting, the committee discussed several other topics and made important recommendations, which will be submitted to the BOC board of directors to be reviewed at their next meeting.

This idea will be benefited by sports federations, which in turn will nominate a representative at the Players Committee to assist in the selection of the players to benefit from the scholarship programme.

The Players Committee, which was founded last year in May, also decided to prepare a bylaw for the retired players in order to become an archive for all the players wishing to step down in their respective disciplines.

Among other recommendations is to arrange a number of visits to regional countries, such as Jordan and Morocco, to look into their experiences in this area in an attempt to benefit from them.
