Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, November 20, 2017: The capital of Brunei Darussalam, Bandar Seri Begawan, hosted the International Table Tennis Federation’s Basic Umpire, Basic Referee and Tournament Organisation Courses.

Administered under the auspices of the ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Union Development Programme, the itinerary ran from November 12-17 under course conductor C.K. Chan at the Meeting Room of the Indoor Stadium.

Locally, matters were conducted by the Secretary General of the Brunei Darussalam Table Tennis Association, Anthony Liew, supported by Vice Presidents Shiekh Haji Said Bin Shiekh Haji Yahya and Haji Rusli Bin Haji Yusop.

A total of 21 students attended the Basic Umpire Course, 22 for the Basic Referee Course and 26 joined the Tournament Organiser Course.

At the end of the course, 20 candidates sat the Basic Umpire Course examination; eight passed and are now qualified as a Certified Basic Umpire. Eight candidates passed the Basic Referee Course examination and each is now recognised as a Certified Basic Referee.

“Overall, the courses more than met the expectations of the association. They injected renewed interest and vigour into the table tennis sport in Brunei,” said Mr Liew.
