Bahrain, Oman win gold in GCC Women's Games athletics

Manama, Bahrain: Bahrain dominated the first day of athletics at the 3rd GCC Women's Games on Thursday. The host nation took nine medals in the finals of six events, comprised of four gold, four silver and one bronze, at Khalifa Sports City. The gold medals were won by Noora Salem Jassim (shot put, 12.69 metres), Maryam Al Ansari (triple jump, 11.48 metres), Taj Baba (3,000m in 9 minutes 46.79 seconds) and Mimi Belete (800m).

Omani athletes won the 100m and 100m hurdles through Shanona Saleh in 12.19 seconds and Buthayna Eid in 14.59 seconds, respectively.

The winners were honoured by Bahrain Athletics Association President Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa in the presence of Bahrain Olympic Committee General Secretary Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Executive Committee chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa and other BAA officials.
