Welcome to Sapporo – straight from the art

17 Feb 2017
Sapporo, Japan, February 17, 2017: The 8th Asian Winter Games in Sapporo will no doubt inspire some future winter sports athletes, maybe all the way to the Olympic Games. In return, the schoolchildren of Sapporo are doing their best to inspire the athletes competing at the 8th AWG by drawing a series of posters and “good luck” messages to make them feel welcome in Japan.

Some of the art work is on display in the spacious lobby of the Main Media Centre, which has been established in the Sapporo Convention Centre.

Young students from Sapporo Hongo Elementary School and Kitashiroisi Elementary School are among the contributors to the colourful display, greeting the visitors in the wide variety of languages to be found across Asia.

The AWG motto “Beyond Your Ambitions” and the mascot Ezomon figure prominently in the designs, as do the 11 sports disciplines that will be contested from February 19-26. The messages come straight from the heart - or, in this case, straight from the art of the Sapporo children.
