Maldives NOC reiterates support for government sports policy

Male, Maldives, December 10, 2015: The Maldives Olympic Committee has reiterated its full support for the sports policy of the government and emphasized its eagerness to work alongside the government in fulfilling the policy and promoting sports development.

MOC made its stance in a meeting held between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the various National Sports Associations of Maldives.

At the meeting held on Tuesday at Henveiru Boalhage, MOC highlighted its full commitment to adhering to the policies of the government working alongside all sports associations in all ways to enhance and develop sport in Maldives.

It also noted the importance of preserving autonomy and called on all associations as well as the government to work in the spirit of preserving autonomy of the sporting associations.

At the meeting, all associations noted the difficulty in attaining funds for various competitions as well as the functioning of the associations. They also noted the difficulties in attaining adequate sporting venues for practice and competitions.

Along with MOC, the meeting was attended by senior representatives of the National Sports Associations from football, volleyball, basketball, athletics, badminton, cricket, swimming, tennis, table tennis, pool/billiard, shooting, chess, body building, handball, netball and carrom.
