Nepal NOC remembers earthquake victims one year on

Kathmandu, Nepal, May 4, 2016: The Nepal Olympic Committee organised an Earthquake Memorial Day to pay tribute to the athletes and other people who died in the earthquake of April 25, 2015. NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha handed over cheques worth 40,000 rupees (around USD 370) to 23 people in sport who were affected by the quake.

NOC member Nilendra Shrestha said that 10 athletes had lost their lives, and reported that the NOC had distributed relief to 57 athletes. The NOC also organised a painting and pottery workshop to mark the anniversary, during which the participants lit candles forming the shape of Nepal in memory of the deceased. Many senior politicians and sports administrators were present at the event, which was held on April 24.
