Honour in Iran for Dr Abdolhamid Ahmadi

21 Nov 2013
Tehran, Iran: The President of Iran’s Sports Journalists Association (ISJA) and AIPS Asia Secretary General, Dr Abdolhamid Ahmadi, has been appointed senior adviser and head of the Strategic Council of Iran’s Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

His appointment came on Tuesday, November 19, only two days after Dr Mahmoud Goudarzi won the vote of confidence from Iran’s Parliament and was elected as the country’s Sports and Youth Affairs Minister.

Goudarzi, a former wrestler, has been the dean of the University of Tehran’s Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences since 2008. He holds a PhD in sports planning and management.

Iran’s Sports and Youth Affairs ministry was formed in 2011 with the aim of renewing the country’s sports infrastructure and improving social and cultural life for Iran’s mostly young population.

In May, Ahmadi was re-elected for a fifth term as the ISJA President. He is also the secretary general of the Asian Sports Press Union (AIPS Asia-ASPU). AIPS is the International Sports Press Association, founded in 1924.
