The Curtain Falls on the 2nd Asian Youth Games

23 Aug 2013
Nanjing, China: The 2nd Asian Youth Games has come to an end. Here is a summary of my experience over the past nine days. On the first day upon arriving here I managed to get some rest at the hotel after the 13 hour long flight. It was only then that the real fun started. There was a press conference on that day -August 15th - and I gave a few words about coming here and how I was the flag bearer. I went on a tour around the place and I got the chance to see the studio of CCTV5.

On August 16th and 17th I went to the Athletes' Village. August 16th marked the Opening Ceremony of the game and I was my country's flag bearer at the ceremony. On August 17th I followed the OCA President, His Excellency Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah around the Village. After his tour I went to attend his press conference. He made some interesting points regarding the volunteers.

It was shocking to know that there were about 1500 volunteers from the city of Nanjing. He thought that the food, accommodation and safety were excellent here at the 2nd Asian Youth Games. I wrote my fist article about World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on August 18th. I went to see the swimming competitions the following day and wrote an article about it.

Following that I witnessed my first golf match, which amused me when the Filipino girl won the Gold medal finishing 17 under par. On 21st August I went on a tour around the city and I saw the Nanjing Massacre Memorial 1937 where 300,000 victims of war were massacred. The museum paid respects to the lives that were lost during the war between China and Japan.

On August 22 I visited the Athletes' Village for the last time. I interviewed an athlete from my country as a requirement of the Youth Reporters Project. On August 23rd, I finally had some breather so I decided to go to the huge mall next door and did some shopping for myself . It was a stupendous experience here at the 2nd Asian Youth Games and I can't wait to go to Incheon, Korea next year for the 17th Asian Games.
