SEA Games Seminar date fixed

14 Dec 2009
The South East Asian Games Executive Committee meeting was held on December 7 at the Don Chan Palace Hotel in Vientiane, Laos, while the SEA Games Council Meeting was held the following day at the same venue.

The Executive Committee and the Council approved the recommendation of the SEA Games Sports and Rules Committee to permit the 25th SEA Games Organising Committee to award gold, silver and bronze medals in events with only three competitors. The existing SEA Games rule states that only gold and silver be awarded.

The Council decided to organise the 2nd SEA Games Seminar in March 2010 in Bangkok to discuss the future of the SEA Games. The 1st SEA Games Seminar was held in Kuala Lumpur 10 years ago with the theme – “The SEA Games in the New Millennium”.

The flag-raising ceremony for the 11 contingents of the SEA Games Federation was held at 2.30 p.m. on December 8 at the Athletes Village.

After the ceremony, a simple but very meaningful 50th anniversary celebration of the SEA Games was held at the same venue. The 50th anniversary plaques were presented to each NOC by the President of the SEA Games Federation, H.E. Dr. Pouthong Sengakhom, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office and President of the National Olympic Committee of Laos PDR.

The SEA Games Council members then made a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Bouasone Bouphavanh, Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. After the courtesy call, the SEA Games Council members attended a welcome dinner hosted by H.E. Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad, Standing Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the 25th SEA Games Organising Committee.
