Curling clean in Korea

02 Feb 2017
Gangneung, Korea, February 2, 2017: The World Curling Federation and World Anti-Doping Agency are joining forces to promote clean sport at the VoIP Defender World Junior Curling Championships 2017 in Gangneung, Korea, from February 16-26. This is the first time the two organisations have teamed up to deliver WADA’s Legacy Outreach programme.

The purpose of the programme is to assist International Federations in delivering sustainable anti-doping awareness programmes for their athletes. During the championships, competitors, coaches and support staff will have the chance to take part in fun and educational activities and to pledge their loyalty to the clean sport movement by signing the Clean Sport Pledge – a popular WADA initiative that has been run at international sports events worldwide.

WCF President Kate Caithness said: “As the international governing body for curling it is our job to educate our athletes, coaches and administrators about our commitment to clean sport and their responsibility to curl clean. “I truly believe there is no better way to do this than to deliver this message to our young athletes in a fun and engaging way.”

WADA Director General Olivier Niggli added: “WADA is very pleased to partner with the WCF on this latest Legacy Outreach event. “As the leader of clean sport, it is important for us to reach athletes in every sport and in every part of the world, to help ensure that the next generation upholds the same values and clean sport ideals that we cherish today. Curling is a great example of a sport playing its part to maintain a level playing field for its athletes.”
